Donald MacCormick

Biography

Donald MacCormick is an experienced consultant specialising in media skills.From 1995-00 Donald presented the main evening programme on BBC World, the international news channel. This involved daily interviews with political figures and commentators on the world stage.

He began his broadcasting career in Scotland, working on political programmes both for ITV and BBC. In 1975 he came to London as a presenter on BBC1`s Tonight and a series of Network roles followed. Most significantly, along with John Tusa and Peter Snow, he made up the triumvirate that anchored Newsnight throughout the 1980s. Donald has also chaired BBC1`s Question Time, presented the Money Programme and for several years was a commentator on the BBC`s live coverage of the party political conferences.

On London Weekend Television in the early 1990s, Donald hosted a lunchtime news analysis programme and conducted a major discussion series for ITV during the Gulf War. He later returned North of the border to present three seasons of political programmes for Scottish Television in Glasgow. On radio, Donald has hosted his own Sunday morning topical magazine programme on London News Direct.In the corporate sector he has had wide experience of interviewing executives for company videos and of chairing conferences where management and employees debate business issues. During 2000 he extended his activities to the sphere of media training.

Donald was a student at the University of Glasgow and graduated with Honours in English in 1961. He then acquired teaching certification at Jordanhill College of Education (with Merit in the practice of teaching) and taught at the High School of Glasgow for five years before beginning his media career in 1967.
