Issue

Our client, a global management consulting firm working in almost every industry and sector, is passionately committed to the personal and professional development and well-being of its own people. It is consistently ranked in international surveys as one of the best places in the world to work. This commitment to its people is reflected in the breadth of learning and development it offers. Formal training on assertiveness skills is one of three workshops JSB was asked to deliver.

Our approach

In addition to gaining a full understanding of client requirements, JSB ensures that what we deliver is in harmony with the client’s culture and ethos. JSB researches the work of the client, the duties they perform and the pressures they face; we get a feel for how our client communicates internally and externally and how its operating principles and values inform the way they work; we understand how this training fits into the wider picture of learning and development strategy and work with our client to ensure our programme adds maximum value and impact.

Key characteristics of our approach include:

  • Conducting the workshop in the spirit of the client’s operating principles and values
  • Keeping results and outcomes in focus
  • Ensuring every aspect is immediately relevant to all delegates
  • The ability to apply things learned in a pragmatic way in the workplace
  • A stimulating, demanding and enjoyable workshop environment

Our workshop includes a combination of self-analysis, group discussion, technical instruction, role plays of real situations, detailed feedback, practical advice and action planning.

The outcome

An interactive day ensures participants leave with a deeper knowledge of their preferred behavioural style, its impact and how their culture, upbringing and personal belief systems engendered this style. They learn how to construct positive inner dialogues, make and refuse requests while preserving relationships, give frequent and constructive feedback and talk about difficult personal and business issues. They discover different ways of handling conflict and how to handle other people’s behaviours. Learning is enriched by videoed role plays of real work situations with detailed feedback.
