What our students say

I would recommend the ACEL course to anyone advising on employment law. It teaches you to consider employment issues from a legal rather than an HR perspective, enabling you to assess very quickly the risks of taking a particular course of action and, therefore, provide much better quality advice to Line Management. As a direct result of doing this course I am much more confident in advising my clients and, on numerous occasions, have enabled them to achieve the result they want whilst removing the risk of an employment tribunal claim.

- Carolyne Browne, WAA

Completing the ACEL enabled me to save my employer several thousand pounds in solicitor fees. The ACEL qualification is the single most useful course I have ever studied for.

- June Smith, Newcastle College

The course gave a thorough grounding in key areas of employment legislation. Classes were well-run by informed legal practitioners, who provided detailed additional reference material.

- Kirsten Sunter, HR Manager, Indesit

I completed the Advanced Certificate in Employment Law through JSB and was impressed with the flexible approach and professional advice that I received from the JSB tutors and administrative staff during the course of my studies. They have an excellent understanding of the pressures associated with balancing a busy work schedule with part-time studies and supported me every step of the way towards gaining this qualification. I can whole-heartedly recommend JSB as the training provider of choice for HR professionals wanting to study towards this qualification.

- Werner Bezuidenhout, HR Manager, Johnson Matthey

I was pleased to see that I had achieved a merit in the CIPD employment law exam in May…thanks to JSB for helping me to achieve the qualification.

- Simon Morgan, The HR Department

I’d just like to say how much I have enjoyed the ACEL course. Every module has been well presented; all of the tutors have been so knowledgeable and the course materials very thorough. My personal tutor has also been so helpful and always available. I will definitely recommend the course to others.

- Amy Budd, Aveva Group

Accreditation

In addition to CIPD accreditation, the ACEL is accredited by leading professional bodies, including the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board.

Personal Tutor support

To help students with successful completion of the ACEL and make the most of their studies, our Employment Law Faculty provides each student with unlimited access to his/her own personal tutor.

Personal tutors on the ACEL are recruited on the basis of a rigorous selection interview. This is followed by a training process that adheres to the high standards of the programme. All tutors are experienced employment law specialists with expertise in a variety of fields of employment law theory and practice. Most are experienced in management and in their professional lives have dealt - from a legal perspective - with many of the practical situations likely to be encountered by ACEL students.

Every ACEL student has his/her own personal tutor who provides support throughout their studies. Tutors offer feedback on course work, advise on issues arising during the course, assist with the submission and agreement of the student’s assignment topic, and are generally available to offer guidance and support.  Contact is maintained by email, telephone and fax, enabling tutors to provide practical assistance at every stage of the ACEL.

Our personal tutors:

  • Angela Brosnan (Solicitor)
  • Arran Elkeles (Barrister)
  • Ginny Harrison (Solicitor)
  • Jane Lister (Solicitor)
  • Penny Macmillan (Solicitor)
  • John Sprack (Barrister)

Is ACEL the right Employment Law qualification for you?

You should have at least a basic knowledge of employment law, gained either from on-the-job experience and/or attendance at one or more of our employment law conferences, seminars or workshops. The ACEL is for you if you want to become your organisation’s expert on employment law and achieve the recognition granted by the initials ACEL after your name.

JSB’s ACEL is a Master’s level employment law qualification that is fully accredited by the CIPD. Students who successfully complete the ACEL meet the requirements of the employment law module on the CIPD Advanced Level Qualification.

In practice, many ACEL students are already full CIPD members, who wish to take their employment law knowledge and expertise to a higher level.
