Top Tips for Project Management

Across the economy, in both the public and private sectors, many projects fail to deliver. Missed deadlines, significant overspends, disappointed clients and negative publicity. Here are ten tips to help you deliver your project on time and within budget:

  • Define the vision – total clarity on what you want to achieve
  • Create alignment – get on-side with your client
  • Invest energy – your enthusiasm is rocket fuel for the project
  • Build goodwill – with the client, within your team and in all contributors
  • Commit to excellence – in every aspect of what you do and how you do it
  • Plan – and then plan again to adapt to changes in the project and in the wider environment
  • Hit milestones – right-shift your early stage milestones and you pay the price later
  • Build momentum – in every document, meeting, email and phone call create the sense of forward movement
  • Love your team – you are nothing without them
  • Focus on value – benefits, outcomes, the achievement of significant and beneficial change
