Managing People for Results |
Benefits
- Learn how to be a more effective manager
- Improve the performance of your team
Issue
Our client, a major UK treasury services organisation, employs a diverse range of managers, with different organisational backgrounds and varied management styles and work cultures. For a specific management level, our client wanted to introduce a two-day development programme to help participants’ develop skills for managing their teams effectively – and for managing across and up the organisation. The purpose of the development programme was to raise managers’ understanding of their existing style, identifying what works – and what doesn’t – and extend managers’ range and skills so they are better able to build individual and team performance.
Our approach
The JSB team, Client Learning and Development team and the target audience provided input to develop the training events. Our approach comprised 5 key stages:
- Familiarisation and research
- Initial design
- Delivery – pre-work, pilot, delivery
- Follow up
- Evaluation
Our programme was designed to avoid a ‘one style fits all’ approach. Instead, it supports managers as they begin to develop a style that fits their very particular range of working circumstances.
The outcome
Managers experience an intensive learning experience that provokes thought, discussion and action. The programme enhances understanding of their management responsibilities offering advice on giving feedback, motivating staff and delegating more effectively. They learn how to be more assertive in their roles and manage conflict effectively. The programme constantly refers back to the day to day roles of the participants, ensuring that the content is completely relevant and skills can be effectively transferred back to the workplace.
