Issue

We were asked to assist our client with the implementation of their new absence management policy. Our client wished to provide line managers with knowledge of the new absence management process and also with the awareness and skills to proactively minimise absence and deal constructively with attendance issues within their team.

Our approach

We worked with our client to design a one-day programme which was rolled out to line managers. Having worked beforehand with key stakeholders in the organisation to establish individual needs, together we designed an interactive programme using a mix of case studies, interactive exercises and action planning to ensure transfer of learning back to the workplace.

The outcome

Participants gained a much greater awareness of the organisation policy and related policies. From a practical perspective they learned how to better manage absence phone calls and conduct return to work meetings. Importantly the training introduced a much more formal approach to handling absence and reason for absence in order to maximise attendance levels.
