Issue

Our client, with strong and established market positions and operating from 36 locations globally, embraces a culturally diverse workforce operating in very differing local economies worldwide. It has set up two groups to progress the development of Equal Opportunities and Diversity across its businesses, involving the reviewing, revision and development of its materials, policies, processes and training. Our client asked JSB to provide training for senior personnel across the businesses to ensure consistent and compatible actions are taken.

Our approach

We identified that three separate groups required tailored training; CEO and board members, Senior managers and other managers. JSB researched the requirement, designed, piloted and delivered the programmes, evaluating the success of them later. JSB was also able to recommend five further methods by which the client could maintain the momentum of training and continue to make ongoing progress. In addition, we offered train-the-trainer training to HR for them to deliver the course content to the third group, thus reinforcing the client’s internal knowledge and understanding of Equal Opportunities and Diversity issues.

The outcome

The client experienced a thoroughly enjoyable day and benefited from a raised awareness of the subject and the traps and pitfalls they need to avoid. They gained practical understanding from looking at real case studies and learned how to deal with situations as they arise. Individual interpretation of the legislation, a consideration of personal values and what might cause offence was enlightening. They all learned from the discussions of diversity and equal opportunities in different parts and regions of the business and together, developed a strategy to drive and deliver change across the organisation.
