What were your organisational objectives in running the Advanced Certificate in-house for your HR team?
Channel 4 has a unique position within UK broadcasting and must continuously adapt and respond to a rapidly changing landscape. As a result, we must ensure that line managers receive the very latest up to date employment law advice.
What benefits has Channel 4 derived from students’ completion of the programme?
With a team of HR generalists from a variety of different industry sectors and with differing experience of employment law, it was essential to set a baseline of knowledge and understanding. ACEL has provided the assurance that all our practitioners exceed that requirement.
What benefits have the individual students derived from the certificate programme?
Increased confidence is the main benefit gained by the students themselves. Whilst line managers will only need an overview, the students can be confident that their advice is sound and can be supported with legislation and case examples.The students also get personal benefit from the course being certificated by the CIPD in career terms.
What were the advantages for you in running this certificate programme in-house?
Working on-site as a team allowed us to work through live examples of employment issues that were affecting our business. Being on-site allowed us to pick up any ‘emergency’ issues if they arose.The financial savings were considerable, and allowed us to invite other employees from around the Channel to relevant sessions without the long-term commitment.
What are your thoughts on the level of instruction received?
Sessions were always lively and relevant.The emphasis was on real-life situations rather than academic or theoretical situations.
Overall, the programme has been a real success for our team. All participants passed the exam and are now putting that learning into practice.
