Mergers and Acquisitions fail without substantial HR involvement
News item added 23rd November 2007
Between April and June this year the UK saw a record-breaking number of acquisitions by foreign investors. Such high levels of activity in this complex area have again put the spotlight on HR’s role. HR involvement from the earliest stage and throughout a merger or acquisition is vital to its success. And it is essential therefore that HR professionals keep abreast of all key M&A issues.
Leslie Moss, Principal Consultant, Mergers, Acquisitions and Divestitures at Hewitt Associates, comments: “The credit crunch and a less favourable economic outlook mean that M&A activity will increasingly be driven by potential gains from operational improvements rather than multiples and leverage. HR's role in supporting this shift is a crucial value-add."
HR needs to be fully prepared for the challenges created by a merger or acquisition – both employment law aspects and critical people issues such as employee communication, talent retention and cultural alignment. Knowing how to apply policies and procedures to your own organisation will enhance long-term business value.
JSB Training and Development two-day conference The Role of HR in Mergers and Acquisitions offers a unique chance to hear best practice guidance on the M&A process.
