Agency Workers: Law and HR Best Practice in brief

After six years of negotiations the European Parliament has approved proposals extending ‘equal treatment’ to agency workers after twelve weeks of employment. With the world now in the midst of a recession, employers are now re-evaluating staff levels and looking closely at labour expenditure. Accounting for 1.4 million or 4.5% of Britain’s workforce, temporary workers provide organisations with a unique flexibility and an essential resource as employers attempt to fill a skills gap without recruiting permanent staff. So, what effect will the Agency Workers Directive (AWD) have on all parties’ involved?

With the likely implementation of the AWD in 2010, HR must ensure they are well prepared to handle the likely legal and contractual issues that could potentially arise. JSB’s Agency Workers: Law and HR Best Practice conference will allow you to develop a clearer understanding of the law, optimise the use of temporary labour and discuss your experiences and strategies with your HR colleagues that have enabled you to support your workforce.
