There will be two coffee breaks during the day and a lunch break.
I am a member of JSB’s Employment Law Faculty and have many years’ employment law and HR experience gained within both the public and private sectors.
Having qualified as a barrister, my career has covered employment law training and consultancy, human resources, and policy development for Government. I have previously worked as Personnel Director at the Building Research Establishment, as a lawyer and policy administrator in the Lord Chancellor’s Department (now the Ministry of Justice), and as a prosecutor for the South Wales Police Authority. For some years I was joint chairman and managing director of my family’s company in the manufacturing sector.
I am also an experienced writer, and have contributed to various HR and legal publications. I am a member of the Employment Tribunal, a Trustee and mediator for Mediation Hertfordshire, a Trustee of Hertsmere CAB and was a Governor of a Community Technology College in Hertfordshire for 11 years.
I am a confident and accomplished employment lawyer with a proven track record of successfully advising employers on all aspects of employment law. I have supported and led employers in a variety of industries on matters ranging from recruitment to dismissal. I am an experienced tribunal advocate and successfully defended employment tribunal claims involving complex issues of dismissal, discrimination, TUPE, whistleblowing and insolvency.
I have a law degree from Brunel University and a Masters degree in employment law from Leicester University. I have written extensively in trade and legal publications and presented seminars on a wide range of employment topics.

This is an option for those who cannot attend an event on a particular day or those who wish to share knowledge with colleagues. Technology is bringing about seismic shifts in how we communicate on both a personal and business level. This is particularly evident in how learning is consumed and JSB is committed to delivering its L&D services in a way that optimises all appropriate technology.
In each case participants receive a documentation pack which includes any presentation material alongside a supporting narrative giving useful background information.
Choose the right approach for you:
The most valuable form of learning delivery continues to be the face-to-face classroom-based event. Engaging with expert speakers and fellow participants in relaxed two-way discussion in a distraction-free environment offers a valuable and practical learning experience.
All JSB programmes take place in top venues in central London and participants report that they greatly value the opportunities that these events provide for learning and networking.
We frequently welcome participants from overseas to our London events. However, we recognise that HR professionals who are responsible for managing workforces in these countries will not always be able to make the financial and time investment necessary to attend JSB events when they run in London. You will have the opportunity to submit questions to the speaker throughout the event and will get access to the slides and documentation in exactly the same way as those in the room. All you need is a standard domestic broadband connection.
Should you find that you can’t wait until the next event on your chosen topic, you can access a full recording of a recent live event. Again, full slides and documentation will be provided. This is an option for those who cannot attend an event on a particular day. Moreover if the learning is to be of practical value it is often the case that even those who participated on the day welcome the opportunity of accessing the material in the weeks and months following the event. It’s a great way to share content with colleagues too.
